Abu Dhabi Police launches a Traffic initiative titled “the Etiquette of Driving on Roads, Speed is for Racetracks”

As part of its preparations for the 2012 Formula 1, Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters launched a media awareness campaign titled “the Etiquette of Driving on Roads, speed is for racetracks" on Wednesday. This exciting sporting event, which runs November 2-4, will take place at the Yas Marina Circuit. Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, stated that the media awareness campaign, organized by the Security Media Department, embodies the modern approach pursued by Lt. General H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior. The approach aims to consolidate the advanced concepts of police work in its interaction with community members. He emphasized the ongoing commitment of the Abu Dhabi Police to communicate with the various sectors, institutions, and segments of society, via modern awareness methods. He pointed out that sporting or cultural youth events and activities taking place at the capital constitute a valuable opportunity for police members to achieve communication, and broadcast awareness and public safety messages to society including citizens, residents, and visitors according to their different interests and preferences. Moreover, Major General Al Menhali stated: “The campaign embodies the Abu Dhabi Police’s commitment to keep up with events and interact with the public to encourage drivers to respect traffic rules. For this purpose, Abu Dhabi Police launched the Fan Zone Exhibition on Abu Dhabi Corniche that includes a number of surprises such as the F999 police car, and the Falcon motorcycle, based on the campaign’s theme.” “These events focus on promoting the concept of safe traffic awareness, according to the traffic rules and regulations,” he added. As part of the exhibition, awareness ads will be displayed under the slogan, "We Ensure Your Safety, in the Fastest Way" through big screens mounted at a number of commercial centers and residential buildings in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. The exhibition also features a traffic village for children aged 4 to 14 years old, consisting of roads, traffic signals, bridges, and underpasses giving the kids a real feel of driving in the streets. Presents will also be distributed to visitors, via a number of activities and entertaining events targeting the public, particularly young people. The events embody the police leadership’s determination to keep up with developments and achieve the objectives of police and security work via new initiatives consistent with the aspirations and interests of all community segments, according to modern and contemporary methods. Al Awadi urged the public to interact with the programs and activities of the campaign, which aims to strengthen partnership with the community, by intensifying media activity. This reflects the police leadership’s security and media efforts, by sponsoring and participating in events that meet the public’s needs and embody the police’s vision of achieving efficient and preventive communication, to enhance cultural community-based approaches of the state. It is noteworthy that the Formula 1 presents a unique opportunity to educate the public, especially the young members of society, on the dangers of speeding on public roads via an awareness message embodied in the media campaign’s slogan: “The Etiquette of Driving on Roads, Speed is for Racetracks.” It also aims to acquaint the public with Abu Dhabi Police’s continuous efforts to ensure safety for all through the most efficient, rapid, and intelligent methods.
